PUK President: Kurdistan Region Will Not Be a Threat to Any Neighbouring Country

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), met with senior commanders and officials from the 70 Forces of the Peshmerga and security agencies in Sulaymaniyah.

The meeting was attended by Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, head of the Protection Council of the Higher Interests of the PUK; Shalaw Kosrat Rasul; Lieutenant Colonel Omar Salih, commander of the 70 Forces; and Jalal Sheikh Naji, head of the Kurdistan Region’s Parastin u Zanyari / Zanyari Agency.

Discussions focused on the latest military and security developments in the wider region and their potential impact on both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

Speaking during the meeting, President Bafel said: “The Kurdistan Region is not part of this war that has engulfed the region and will not be a threat to any neighbouring country. We emphasise our friendship with everyone,” he said.

He also urged all security forces to continue prioritising the protection of security and stability in the Kurdistan Region as always and to prevent any outlawed groups or actors from posing a threat to the lives of the people.
