Iraqi President and Parliament Speaker Pledge Closer Coordination on Governance

Iraqi President Dr Abdullatif Jamal Rashid met with Speaker of parliament Haibat al-Halbousi.
Iraqi President Dr Abdullatif Jamal Rashid met in Baghdad today, Monday, 5 January 2026, with Speaker of Parliament Haibat al-Halbousi, in the presence of Deputy Speaker Farhad al-Atroushi.
At the outset of the meeting, President Rashid congratulated al-Halbousi and his deputies on securing the confidence of the Iraqi parliament, wishing them success in fulfilling their constitutional responsibilities and in enhancing the role of the legislature in supporting the democratic process, as well as consolidating both legislative and oversight functions.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of ongoing coordination and cooperation between the Presidency and parliament, to ensure cohesion among constitutional bodies, support political stability, and enact legislation that meets citizens’ needs across various sectors.
In response, al-Halbousi expressed his gratitude to the President, reaffirming parliament’s commitment to work closely with the Presidency and other constitutional authorities, and to advance legislation and address priority matters in the public interest.
