Qubad Talabani, supervisor of the electoral campaign for List 222 of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) in the Erbil constituency, stated that the PUK's victory in the upcoming elections will play a crucial role in restoring financial stability to the Kurdistan Region’s market, as the party’s strategy focuses on resolving the long-standing budget and salary crises at their root.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Talabani said that the persistent lack of salaries, budget shortages, and financial instability that have afflicted the Kurdistan Region for years have negatively impacted not only public sector employees but also traders, market vendors, and all segments of society.
“The lack of salaries, lack of budget, and financial instability that have plagued Kurdistan for years have harmed not only salaried employees, but also traders, professionals, market vendors, and all classes of society,” Talabani wrote.
He urged citizens, particularly traders and market vendors, to reflect on who bears responsibility for this ongoing instability and which party has genuinely worked to restore financial order through constructive dialogue and agreement with Baghdad.
Talabani added that, during his meeting with members of the 24th electoral district representing market vendors and traders, he explained that the PUK’s success in this election will help stabilise the Kurdistan market.
“The PUK’s victory will help restore financial stability to the Kurdistan market, because the PUK’s strategy is to fundamentally resolve the budget and salary problems and it will no longer allow the people of different parts of Kurdistan to bear the cost of other parties’ misguided policies,” he said.
The PUK is contesting the 2025 Iraqi parliamentary elections, scheduled for 11 November, across several governorates, presenting its candidates on an independent list numbered 222 in Erbil, Sulaymaniyah (including Halabja), Duhok, Kirkuk, and Diyala. In Nineveh Governorate, the PUK is running as part of the "Nineveh People’s Union Coalition" with number 281, while in Saladin it is fielding one candidate within the "National Masses Coalition" with number 240.
Overall, the PUK is entering the elections with 156 candidates: 36 in Sulaymaniyah, 30 in Erbil, 5 in Duhok, 24 in Kirkuk, 28 in Diyala, 31 in Nineveh within the Nineveh People’s Union Coalition, and one candidate each in Saladin and Baghdad.
