“America’s Nicest Judge” Frank Caprio Dies Aged 88

Judge Caprio passed away at the age of 88.
Judge Frank Caprio, widely recognised as “America’s nicest judge,” has passed away at the age of 88 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. His family confirmed the news via his official social media accounts.
Caprio, famed for his television programme Caught in Providence, earned acclaim for his compassionate and empathetic approach in the courtroom. His lenient rulings often provided relief to individuals facing financial difficulties, endearing him to viewers across the United States and internationally.
Just hours before his death, Judge Caprio shared a heartfelt video from his hospital bed, asking his followers for prayers. His warmth, humour and belief in the goodness of people made him a beloved figure far beyond Rhode Island.
In tribute to his legacy, Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee ordered flags to be flown at half-mast through the day of Caprio’s interment, describing him as “a treasure” and “a symbol of empathy on the bench, showing us what is possible when justice is tempered with humanity.”
Tributes continue to pour in from fans and public figures alike, celebrating Caprio’s decades of service and the compassion he brought to the judiciary.
