Iraqi President, UN Special Representative Discuss Stability and Development in Iraq

Iraqi President and UNAMI Special Representative.
Iraqi President Dr Abdullatif Jamal Rashid received Mohammed al-Hassan, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, at Baghdad Palace on Monday, 18 August 2025.
During the meeting, they discussed the domestic situation and the role of the United Nations Mission in supporting Iraq’s stability and advancing its development agenda. They also explored ways to expand cooperation and enhance joint coordination with the international organisation.
The discussion extended to regional developments, with the President reaffirming Iraq’s ongoing efforts to promote dialogue and understanding among neighbouring countries, while emphasising the UN’s vital role in supporting regional security, peace, and stability.
Al-Hassan, for his part, reiterated the United Nations’ commitment to assisting Iraq across various sectors and underlined its determination to continue working with the country to achieve its development objectives and support efforts aimed at fostering stability and progress.
