The International Centre for Finance and Trade is set to open in Sulaymaniyah today, Thursday. It will feature branches of various foreign and local banks, financial stock companies, and a stock exchange.
Dr. Narmin Maarouf, a member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, told PUKMEDIA: "This centre will help develop commercial and financial activity, fostering trade exchanges both within and outside the region. In the future, it will become an important stock exchange in Sulaymaniyah."
She added: "This centre will play a significant role in improving infrastructure and the economic conditions of Sulaymaniyah and the Kurdistan Region as a whole. It will also create job opportunities, attract foreign investors, and contribute to reducing the unemployment rate."
Maarouf further explained that this financial and commercial centre is the first of its kind in the Kurdistan Region and the second in Iraq after the Baghdad Stock Exchange.
She concluded by stating that the centre is crucial, and many companies and banks are expected to establish branches there, contributing to the development of the economic and financial sectors in the Kurdistan Region. This initiative will also strengthen financial stability and address the financial service needs of citizens.
