Iraqi President, UN Secretary-General Discuss Regional & Global Issues

Iraqi President's meeting with UN Secretary-General in Baku.
As part of his participation in the United Nations Climate Conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, Dr. Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, President of the Republic of Iraq, met today, Wednesday, November 13, 2024, with the United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. Antonio Guterres.
During the meeting, they discussed several matters of mutual interest, including the recent parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region, noting their positive impact on both the regional and national situation. President Rashid also praised the efforts that helped resolve the crisis surrounding the election of a new Speaker of the Iraqi parliament.
Both sides also discussed the work of the COP29, where President Rashid stressed the importance of enhancing international cooperation and implementing the conference's recommendations, as well as those from the Paris Conference, to protect the environment, improve water and food security, and mitigate the negative effects of climate change.
For his part, Mr. Guterres thanked the Iraqi President for his participation in the conference and reiterated the UN's commitment to expanding constructive cooperation with Iraq in order to achieve its development goals across various sectors.
