IHEC Kurdistan Parliament Elections

The Kurdish Parliamentary elections will be closely monitored by 220 international organisations, civil society organisations, the United Nations, and political parties. The experimental election process to test the voting machines is scheduled for next week.

Dr. Narmin Marouf, a member of the Iraqi parliament from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) faction, told PUKMEDIA, "We met as the Iraqi parliament's Legal Committee with the chairman and members of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) to discuss the IHEC's preparations for the Kurdistan Parliamentary Elections on October 20, 2024."

According to the commission, over 3 million people are eligible to vote in 173 registration centres, 1,200 voting centres, and 6,000 polling stations. To ensure transparency, the commission has invited over 220 civil society organisations, in addition to the UN and political parties, to monitor the election process.

The experimental election procedure is scheduled for next week to test voting devices and determine the number of candidates and political parties who have yet to receive their numbers. The identities of election day staff should also be made public.
