The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has announced an extension of the registration deadline for candidates, coalitions, and political parties interested in running in the Kurdish parliamentary elections.
In a statement provided to PUKMEDIA, the IHEC clarified that the original deadline was July 15, 2024, at the end of the commission's official working hours. However, the deadline for submitting the list of candidates for the Kurdistan parliamentary elections has been extended until Thursday, July 18, 2024.
The latest report from the IHEC reveals that from January 1, 2024, to July 11, 2024, over 800,000 individuals were registered as voters in the Kurdistan Region through the biometric registration process. However, approximately half of this number did not visit the registration centres to collect their voter cards. It is worth noting that Sulaymaniyah province had the highest rate of biometric card returns to its citizens.
The Kurdistan Region's President Nechirvan Barzani has set October 20, 2024 as the date for the sixth term of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections.
