IHEC Extends Kurdistan Parliamentary Election Registration Deadline by 10 Days

The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has extended the registration deadline for lists, coalitions, and candidates by an additional ten days.
IHEC spokeswoman Jumana al-Ghalai told PUKMEDIA: "The deadline for registering candidates for the Kurdistan Parliament's sixth session has been extended by the Council of Commissioners to June 24, 2024."
The IHEC's Deputy Director General for the Parties Department, Ahmad Ayad Obaidi, told PUKMEDIA: "A significant number of candidates seeking to run in the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, mainly from Christian and Turkmen parties, have approached the commission to register."
"Meanwhile, Numerous independent candidates have filed to run in the constituencies of Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, and Duhok," he added.
The deadline for registering political parties for the Kurdistan Parliamentary elections was set to end today. Nevertheless, the IHEC granted a 10-day extension to the deadline, following a previous extension of six days.
