22 Parties & Coalitions to Participate in Upcoming Kurdistan Parliamentary Elections

The process of registering political parties and coalitions to take part in the forthcoming parliamentary elections in Kurdistan has concluded. The director general of the Political Parties and Organizations Department of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has stated that the time frame would not be extended.
A total of 20 political parties and two coalitions will take part in the process. Nevertheless, the time for the registration of candidates from political parties, coalitions, and independent candidates will be extended until March 22nd, 2024.
22 parties and coalitions participate in upcoming electionsDr. Haiman Tahsin Hamid, Director General of the Political Parties and Organizations Department, told PUKMEDIA: "The deadline for the registration of political parties and coalitions to participate in the parliamentary elections in Kurdistan, which was on March 14, 2024, has expired. Nevertheless, the registration for candidates of political parties, coalitions, and independent candidates remains available and will continue until next week."
"There are a total of 20 parties, two coalitions, and 62 independent candidates who have officially registered to take part in the elections," he added.
The registration of political coalitions ended todayThe registration period for the political coalitions began on March 5th and concluded on Thursday, March 14th, 2024. The registration process took place in the main office of the Department of Political Parties and Organizations Affairs in Baghdad, as well as at electoral offices in the provinces of Kurdistan.
Jumana Ghalai, the Spokesperson for the IHEC, informed PUKMEDIA: "Today, Thursday was the final day for political coalitions to register for the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, and no more extension will be provided beyond this deadline."
About 3 million people are expected to voteThe Kurdistan Region has a total of 3,789,360 voters, out of whom over 2,900,000 have successfully registered in the biometric registration and are expected to take part in the elections.
Previously, the spokeswoman for the IHEC told PUKMEDIA: "A total of 42,140 voters who were born in 2006 will be participating in the election for the first time. There are 62,777 voters in Erbil, 36,920 in Sulaymaniyah, and 25,798 in Duhok. All of these voters have successfully entered their names in the biometric voting register."
The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) is among the 22 political parties that will take part in the forthcoming parliamentary elections throughout all four constituencies of Kurdistan. As per the Supervisor of the PUK Election Bureau, the PUK has successfully finalised all necessary arrangements to partake in the elections and is fully prepared to participate.
