Iraqi, Armenian Presidents Emphasise Developing Bilateral Relations

Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid received Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan and his accompanying delegation in an official ceremony held at the Baghdad Palace on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. The two Presidents engaged in discussions regarding bilateral relations and strategies for advancement.
Iraq's President Rashid hoped that the visit will enhance and advance the relations between the two countries, and help achieve mutual goals of promoting peace and sustainable development in the region and globally. He conveyed gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality extended by the Armenian people during his recent visit to Armenia.
The two Presidents talked about enhancing bilateral relations and advancing cooperation in economic, commercial, investment, scientific, technical, and technological fields, as well as in health, education, youth, tourism, and culture to benefit both countries and promote security, stability, and prosperity in the region.
President Khachaturyan conveyed his country's strong desire to enhance relations with Iraq, explore new opportunities in different sectors, and collaborate on mutual interests.
The two delegations engaged also in extensive discussions where President Rashid emphasized the need to improve bilateral relations, enhance cooperation, diversify economic ties, and promote collaboration between Armenia and Iraq. He also encouraged Armenian companies to operate in Iraq and proposed exchanging official visits to boost trade. President Rashid underscored the importance of reinforcing joint committees, signing agreements, and establishing memorandums of understanding to advance economic, commercial, tourism, cultural, and air transport cooperation between both countries.
Both sides acknowledged the need of monitoring the outcomes of the meetings of the Iraqi-Armenian Joint Committee from last September to enhance commercial, tourist, cultural, and air transport exchanges.
President Rashid stated that Iraq is currently experiencing security and stability and that the Iraqi government has implemented a comprehensive program to enhance citizens' standard of living, address financial and administrative corruption, decrease unemployment, and restore the infrastructure.
He emphasized the need to enhance global initiatives to counter terrorist groups and extreme beliefs that pose a threat to the safety and well-being of all individuals.
Furthermore, the conversation also covered the advancements in the regional situation and the existing regional and international challenges. President Rashid emphasized Iraq's stance on the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, advocating for diplomacy, negotiations, and political solutions to resolve their disagreements.
The Armenian President emphasized his country's strong desire to enhance relations with Iraq, explore new opportunities in numerous sectors, and collaborate on all matters of mutual concern. He underlined his country's wish to explore additional opportunities and cooperation mechanisms to enhance the relationship between the two countries.
