PUK Kurdistan Region

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) advocates the reunification of the Peshmerga forces and the implementation of reforms within the Peshmerga Ministry. The allies express gratitude to the PUK for its practical efforts to unite the Peshmerga forces.

Allies Thank President Bafel

During a recent meeting, President Bafel was commended by a high-level delegation of international coalition forces led by Joel B. Vowell, commander of the Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve. President Bafel was praised for his invaluable assistance and cooperation in successfully restoring the Peshmerga Ministry's operations and functions, as well as resolving any remaining issues.

Qubad Talabani: Peshmerga Ministry's Reform Process Must Continue

Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani stressed the need to move forward with the Peshmerga forces' reform process following the predetermined plan during a meeting with Commander Vowell.

The Deputy Prime Minister previously stated: "We value the coordination and cooperation of our allies, and the reform process must not become sluggish and feeble in the future" as Peshmerga Minister Shorsh Ismail was taking back his position.

29 Brigades are Unified

The Peshmerga Ministry currently oversees 29 brigades that have been unified, and four more brigades are ready to be unified but are awaiting the completion of administrative procedures.

In an interview with PUKMEDIA, Ahmed Latif, the official spokesperson for the Unit 70 Forces, said: "We are looking forward to the unification of the Peshmerga forces under the Peshmerga Ministry's umbrella." We fully endorse any reforms that are carried out within the Peshmerga Ministry and will do everything in our power to create a strong national force, following President Bafel's lead."

"At the moment, the Peshmerga Ministry oversees 29 brigades in total, and four more brigades are getting ready to be unified. However, the measures have not yet been put into action. The international coalition thanked the PUK and the 70th Forces for their willingness to work with the Peshmerga forces in appreciation of these efforts," he continued.

Coalition aid to the Peshmerga has decreased

The reunion of the Peshmerga forces is the primary requirement set forth by the coalition. Unfortunately, the coalition's support for the Peshmerga forces has decreased as a result of the procedure's shoddy execution.

Deputy Chairman of the Peshmerga Committee in the Kurdistan Parliament's fifth session, Osman Sedari, told PUKMEDIA: "At first, the coalition gave the Peshmerga forces $42 million every month. But the amount has now been lowered to about $15 million because of the reunification process's flaws and the coalition's inability to meet its demands for the Peshmerga Ministry."

"If we continue to fall short of the coalition's demands, the coalition's support for the Peshmerga forces will inevitably be entirely terminated," he said.

The PUK shares the coalition's position that a potent national force should be established in the Kurdistan Region. As a result, the PUK has strengthened and reformed the Peshmerga Ministry by putting many useful measures into place. The PUK seeks to avoid party politics being mixed up with this national issue and is adamantly against any outside influence that deviates from its main goal. With a focus on fighting terrorists, who continue to pose a serious threat to the territorial integrity of the Kurdistan Region, the PUK aims to create a force that can effectively combat all the issues facing the region.
