President Bafel: PUK is in Favor of Fair Elections Being Held on Time

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), met with Nouri al-Maliki, Leader of the State of Law Coalition in Baghdad.

The meeting, which Justice Minister Khalid Shwani attended, focused on strengthening historical and mutual relations between the two sides in order to enhance collaboration and coordination to settle disputes, preserve the country's greatest interests, and maintain stability.

The meeting also reiterated the continuation of national and productive discussions between the State Administration Alliance's parties In order to accomplish the government's agenda, expand services, and settle disputes particularly those pertaining to the Kurdistan Region's relations with Baghdad. In this regard, President Bafel emphasized that disputes should not be combined with the financial entitlements and salaries of the Kurdistan Region and that instead, citizens' lives should be protected.

The meeting also covered the importance of party collaboration for the successful conduct of provincial council elections. President Bafel said: "The PUK is completely in favor of fair elections being held on time, particularly in Kirkuk where the unique conditions call for additional services and administrative adjustments."
