On Friday, December 1, 2023, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid met with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, on the sidelines of COP28, held in the UAE in Expo City, Dubai.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, and the Minister of Environment, Nizar Amedi.

They discussed the overall developments in politics and security on the global stage.

President Rashid stressed that climate change poses a serious threat to global security and stability and urged all nations towards greater cooperation and further communications to address these global challenges.

In order to reduce the adverse effects of climate change, drought, water scarcity, and desertification, President Rashid discussed the steps Minister of Environment Nizar Amerdi is spearheading in a joint effort alongside other Iraqi ministries.

In addition, President Rashid condemned the continued aggression against the people of the Gaza Strip as well as reaffirming Iraq's unwavering support for the Palestinian cause.

There is a need for an explicit and clear international position against violations international law and the right to self-determination of the Palestinian people.

NATO's Secretary-General hailed Iraq's outstanding performance in combating terrorism, consolidating regional peace, and establishing security and stability in the country.
