On Sunday, the United State's Central Command extended its condolences to the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), for losing three female commanders in a Turkish attack in the city of Qamishli, northeastern Syria, two days ago.

On July 22, a Turkish drone targeted a car with three SDF female fighters, including a deputy commander, on the road in the eastern countryside of Qamishli and claimed the lives of all of them.

“CENTCOM extends our condolences to the families of these 3 SDF fighters, the people in Northeast Syria & our SDF partners,”  the US Central Command said in a tweet.

“Salwa Yusuk (AKA Ciyan Afrin) a Deputy Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) – along with 2 fellow female fighters – was killed in an attack near Qamishli, Syria, on July 22, 2022,” the CENTCOM said.

“Salwa was a critical SDF leader who led forces in combat vs ISIS since the height of the fight to defeat the vile ideology in NE Syria in 2017,” the US Central command tweeted.

For his part, the general commander of the SDF said that they would avenge the attack.

"Joint Operations Commander with @coalition, Jiyan Afrin with our comrades Roj and Barin, heroines took part in war against ISIS and rescued humanity," SDF Commander Mazloum Abdi tweeted.

"Turkey's targeting them undermines war against ISIS. Partners must make greater efforts to stop violations.
We will avenge," he added.

Following Tehran’s summit on July 19, Turkey has been extensively shelling north and east Syria, targeting civilians and military vehicles, and sometimes vital facilities and empty farmlands.

The attacks come in tandem with repeated threats by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to launch a military operation in north and east Syria against the cities of Manbij and Tel Rifaat.

Thirty-three political parties in the north and east of Syria have called the UN on Saturday for the establishment of a no-fly zone in the north and east of Syria or the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) to prevent a humanitarian disaster and the displacement of residents of areas where Turkey intends to launch a military operation.
