Iran, Turkey sign several joint agreements

On Tuesday, Iran and Turkey signed a number of joint agreements between the two sides.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in Tehran on Monday evening for an official visit, accompanied by a ministerial delegation, within the framework of the planned Russian-Iranian-Turkish summit.

The Turkish president was received at Mehrabad International Airport by Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji, Director General of Protocols in the Iranian Presidential Office Reza Nagipour, Iranian Ambassador to Ankara Mohammad Farazmand, and Turkish Ambassador to Tehran Derya Urs.

Erdogan is accompanied by Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu, Treasury and Finance Minister Nureddin Nebati, Natural Resources and Energy Minister Fatih Donmez, Commerce Minister Mehmet Muş, Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank, and Head of the Presidential Communication Department Fahrettin Altun.

After their meeting, Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a joint press conference during which they announced the conclusion of several joint agreements between the two sides.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said during the press conference that his country has taken good steps in the military industry, stressing the need to pay attention to developing joint military action with Iran.

"The volume of trade exchange with Iran has decreased due to the Corona pandemic," he said, stressing the need to strengthen discussions with Iran on the military industry side.

"It is necessary to strengthen relations with Iran on the military, security, and economic levels," he added, explaining that he will hold a meeting later in the day with Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

For his part, Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi said during the joint press conference: "We affirm the extension and strengthening of relations with Turkey, as well as the strengthening of relations at the military level."

"We affirm the unity of Syrian territory, the extension of gas contracts with Turkey, the work of Turkish companies in Iran, and the development of economic relations," he added.

He also pointed to the necessity of consolidating military relations between the two sides, expressing his hope that these concluded agreements will be a factor in strengthening relations between the two sides.
