PUK, SDC celebrate Newroz in Cairo

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) celebrated in Cairo on the occasion of Newroz, the Kurdish new year.

Mala Yassin Raouf, head of the PUK's office of the PUK in Egypt, said: "I congratulate the Kurds wherever they are on the occasion of Newroz," adding that "March is full of our victories and failures, and all our joys and sorrows were unfortunately in the month of March, the fateful and ominous Anfal and the Halabja chemical attack, and also victories such as the liberation of Kirkuk and the success of the Kurdish uprising."

For his part, a leading member of the PUK, Farid Asasard, said: "Newroz is celebrated by a large number of people, who are known as Aryan peoples, and it has a legendary history. It is the festival of the arrival of spring after the cold winter, and people rejoice in it, and also, as the legend says, people revolted against an unjust ruler on Newroz, which is one of the national holidays of many peoples."
