Guinness World Records honors Cristiano Ronaldo

The Guinness World Records honored Cristiano Ronaldo as he became the highest-scoring man in the international football history with his 110th goal for Portugal on Wednesday.

The Portugal captain scored two goals against Ireland in a World Cup qualifier, breaking the record of former Iranian striker Ali Daei, who has scored 109 goals international goals.

Ronaldo has scored 33 goals in the World Cup qualifiers, 31 goals in the Euro qualifiers, 19 goals in friendly matches, 14 goals in the Euro, 7 goals in the World Cup, 5 goals in the European Nations League and two goals in the Confederations Cup.

The Portuguese posted a picture of the Guinness award on his Instagram page, saying, "thank you to the Guinness World Records. Always good to be recognized as a world record breaker. Let’s keep trying to set the numbers even higher."

The 36-year-old Ronaldo, who finalized his return to Manchester United on Tuesday after leaving Juventus, was playing in his 180th game for Portugal. 

The forward made his debut for the national team in 2003 and began his historic scoring run at the 2004 European Championship in the group stage.
