Kurdistan Region takes steps to reduce violence against women

The Kurdistan Regional Government has expressed concern about incidents of violence against women and  family in general, and ways to address and reduce these negative phenomena have been discussed.

 

This came during a meeting on combating violence against women held wednesday, under the supervision of Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan regional government, and Qubad Talabani, deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government. 

 

During the meeting, which was attended by a number of concerned ministers, concern was expressed about incidents of violence against women and the family in general, and ways to address and reduce these negative phenomena were discussed.

 

The Prime Minister stressed the commitment of the Kurdistan Regional Government to protect and defend women's rights and to combat violence in general, particularly against women, by strengthening the role of women within government and society, providing them with employment, enforcing laws, strengthening the role of the courts and making them more efficient, and arresting and holding perpetrators of violence accountable.

 

The meeting discussed a number of resolutions and recommendations aimed at reducing violence against women. In this regard, the meeting encouraged the media to cooperate and play their active role in the face of violence and community awareness, and not to become a platform for promoting violence and the spread of negative social phenomena.
