An informed source revealed the martyrdom of an associate in the Garmian police after he was kidnapped by ISIS criminal groups two years ago.

Rahim Aziz, cousin of the martyr Jalal Baban, who is a resident of the village of Narina, affiliated to the Garmian administration, told PUKmedia on Saturday that ISIS terrorist groups kidnapped his cousin Jalal Baban two years ago, who is an associate of the police forces in Garmian, along with another cousin from their village "Narina" of the Garmian district of the Kurdistan Region, noting that they were able to free the other cousin for a ransom of $6 thousand.

"Unfortunately, ISIS terrorist groups, through their channels, published a video clip of the moment of the martyrdom of their cousin, the martyr Jalal Baban," he added, noting that ISIS terrorists demanded the release of a Kurdish woman who is the wife of one of the ISIS emirs in exchange for the release of their cousin Jalal Baban, but when ISIS made sure that this woman was not going to be released, they brutally killed their cousin and published the moment of his death via a video clip.

Iraq has announced a military victory over ISIS in 2017 after 3 years of battle with the terrorists. However, remnants of the group continue to impose threats, especially in the areas that are disputed between the KRG and the Iraqi Government.

ISIS militants ambush, kidnap and extort both civilians and members of the security forces in the disputed areas, which stretch across several provinces, including Kirkuk, Nineveh, Diyala, and Saladin.

Attacks on Peshmerga sites have recently increased. In late April, ISIS fighters attacked Peshmerga positions near the town of Prde (Altun Kupri) on the Kirkuk-Erbil road. The Peshmerga repelled the attack, but unfortunately, three of its personnel were killed and two injured. read more
