Kurdistan Peshmerga forces responded to a terrorist attack on Tuesday night in Zinana sub-district of Kifri town, which resulted in the death of one of the Peshmerga members and the wounding of another.

A special source told PUKmedia that ISIS terrorists attacked, on Tuesday night, the sites of the Kurdistan Peshmerga forces near the village of "Balki", south of Zinana district, explaining that the attack resulted in the wounding of 2 peshmerga personnel, and they were immediately taken to the hospital.

One of the wounded, whose name was "Mohsen Hussein," died in hospital from wounds sustained during the thwarted terrorist attack.

Iraq has announced a military victory over ISIS in 2017 after 3 years of battle with the terrorists. However, remnants of the group continue to pose threats, especially in the areas that are disputed between the KRG and the Iraqi Government. The terrorists' sleeper cells exploit the security vacuum that exists in those areas.

ISIS militants ambush, kidnap and extort both civilians and members of the security forces in the disputed areas, which stretch across several provinces, including Kirkuk, Nineveh, Diyala, and Saladin.

Attacks on Peshmerga sites have recently increased. In late April, ISIS fighters attacked Peshmerga positions near the town of Prde (Altun Kupri) on the Kirkuk-Erbil road. The Peshmerga repelled the attack, but unfortunately, three of its personnel were killed and two injured.

Authorities in the Kurdistan Region have called many times for forming joint coordination units with the Iraqi Government to prevent such attacks.
