Kurdistan Parliament worries regarding tree felling process in border areas by Turkey

Kurdistan Region - Erbil, on Monday, The Kurdistan Parliament mentioned that they have started investigating the issue of cutting forests in the border areas with Turkey. 

 

A member of the Agriculture and Irrigation Committee mentioned that the cutting process by Turkey in Kurdistan Region areas is hurting the region and has other reasons behind it. 

 

Adding to that, The Director-General of the forests in the Ministry of Culture points out that they have planned to do developments in the forests and have asked for a budget from the Council of Ministers.

 

Osman Sedari, a member of the Agriculture and Irrigation Committee told PUKmedia: "To discuss the issue of cutting trees and destroying the forests of the border areas with Turkey, we as the parliamentary committee, are concerned about this situation and for this reason, the committee will give and make the necessary decisions about it."

 

He said: " The felling process of Kurdistan Region Trees by Turkey is going to harm the nature of the area and we think they have different purposes behind it." 

 

In the related context, different arguments and thoughts have been raised by journalists, civilians, and media through social platforms and TV programs. However, the Kurdistan Region Government did not have serious steps on the matter. 

 

Earlier, Members of the Kurdistan Parliament initiated a campaign to collect signatures against the Turkish attacks on the Kurdistan Region and the Turkish army's burning of large areas of Kurdistan's farms and forests. Read More


Hussein Hama Karim, director general of forests ministry of environment forests of the region told PUKmedia: "To further develop the forests of Kurdistan, we as the Ministry of Agriculture of the region, have asked for about one billion dinars in the council of ministers of the region aiming."

 

Adding to that, he said: "Providing this money will pay more attention to forests and increase trees, and will also lead to more plant production.

 

He added: "Efforts will be made to increase woods and green rates according to seasons, so any attempt to delay in providing that money may not benefit the process which is suitable for developing and serving the plants and forests of the Kurdistan Region."
