In a special statement to PUKmedia on Monday, Nazem Dabbagh, the representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in the Iranian capital Tehran denied that Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism Group forces participated in the assassination of General Qasem Soleimani.

Nazem Dabbagh said during a special statement to PUKmedia: "The news that has spread recently about the assassination of Hajj Qasem Soleimani is nothing but an attempt to sabotage the relations between the KRG and the Islamic Republic of Iran."

"We deny any participation by the CTG in the Kurdistan Region in the assassination of Hajj Qasem Soleimani, as I am the representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government and the PUK in Tehran and if such thing was true, we would have known from the official Iranian authorities, and there would be messages to let our party know that this happened," he added.

Dabbagh pointed out that the recent visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister to the Kurdistan Region, the meeting with officials in the Kurdistan Region, his visit to the co-presidency of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, and the emphasis on strengthening relations is the best proof of the inaccuracy of this news.

He confirmed that the Iranian intelligence is a very effective institution and has extensive and great information. "They told me about many messages regarding very important files, so why did we not hear anything about the participation of CTG in the assassination of General Qasem Soleimani?

"We must work together to limit those sources that harm the reputation of all participants in the Kurdistan Regional Government," he said in conclusion.

The Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism Group has denied in a statement on Sunday any role in the assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, after Yahoo News's report was published which claimed the group's involvement in the assassination.

Yahoo News published a report in recent days, in which several former U.S. officials revealed the details of the Trump administration’s covert plan to eliminate Qasem Soleimani, commander of Iran’s Quds Force, who was killed along with Iraq's PMF commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in an airstrike near Baghdad airport in January 2020.

The Iranian and Iraqi governments created a joint team to investigate the assassination, but it has not yet publicized any results of their probe.
