The Kurdistan Counter Terrorism Group denied any role in the assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, after a report was published that claimed the group's involvement in the assassination.

It added that "the assassinating a leader of this level, the Kurdistan region lost a historical friend and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan lost a long-time friend of the Late President Mam Jalal."

"It is worth noting that the Iranian government and the Iraqi government, in order to investigate the file of targeting the Iranian leader in Iraq, have formed a joint committee since last year to search for the perpetrators of this action, and they are not waiting for press reports to determine the perpetrators of the attack, and we are ready to answer any questions," the statement added.

The report was published by Yahoo News on Saturday claimed that the CTG performed a “key role” in the killing of the Iranian general at Baghdad International Airport on January 3rd 2020 along with PMF commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.

“A member of the Counter Terrorism Group (CTG), an elite Kurdish unit in northern Iraq with deep links to U.S. Special Operations,” aided the US Delta Ground Force team, the report states.
