Iraqi President ratifies Women Survivors Law on Women's Day

Iraqi President Barham Salih on Monday ratified the Women Survivors Law, which was recently approved by Parliament.

 

The Iraqi President formally approved the law of Yazidi, Turkmen, and Shabak survivors on International Women's Day and in the presence of a number of women survivors of terrorism.

 

“I was honored to ratify the Yazidi Women Survivors Law, to redress victims of terrorism from Yazidis, Turkmen, Shabak and Christians, they embody for the world the most wonderful examples of sacrifice, steadfastness and honor," the President tweeted.

 

The signing ceremony took place in the Great Hall of Parliament before the Council of Representatives session today during the celebration of International Women's Day, which falls on the eighth of March of each year.

 

The signing was attended by the head of the Iraqi coalition, Ammar al-Hakim, the Speaker of Parliament Muhammad al-Halbousi, the Supreme Judicial Council, Faiq Zaidan, and the UN representative in Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert.
