Lahur Sheikh Jangi, Co-leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan visited the families of the martyrs of the Kurdistan Region's past month demonstrations in Sayid Sadiq district, extending his condolences to the families and expressing his deep concerns regarding the rerouting of the demonstrations, according to a statement from the PUK Co-leader's official Facebook page.

The text of the statement reads as follows:

"Today, we paid a visit to the families of the victims who were martyred in the recent demonstrations in Said Sadiq. We extended our condolences to their families and expressed our deep concerns that the legitimate demonstrations of our teachers, employees, and the people were rerouted. Unfortunately, some opportunists, for the sake of their personal interests, managed to mix in within the real demonstrators, distorting the beauty, freedom, and peace of the region, causing chaos.

We reiterated that the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has always sacrificed for the people of Kurdistan and struggled for their freedom, prosperity, and security and as such, we were against these incidents resulting from the demonstrations. We consider all the demonstrators our relatives and at the same time, we are concerned by the government’s indifference in providing civil servants with their salaries. We stressed that we need a unified stance and political decision from all the factions to overcome this stage and save our people from starvation.

We reiterated that the lack of decision making in the past, when it comes to the agreement with the federal government, and delaying the negotiations, has resulted in a dead-end. We call on both the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal government to take the current people’s situation into account and reach a final agreement to guarantee the region’s share in the 2021 federal budget. We also restated that we, as the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan will not stand still and will do our best to find a legal and constitutional solution that will be for the good of our people."
