Hasakah Governor Holds Meeting with Local Officials in Afrin.
Hundreds of displaced families from Deir ez-Zor currently residing in Afrin are expected to return to their home areas, while displaced families from Afrin who are currently residing in Kobani, Qamishli, Derik, and other areas of West Kurdistan, North and East Syria, are also expected to return to their homes in the near future.
Human rights activist Ibrahim Sheikho said that the governor of Deir ez-Zor and the director of the Afrin region held a meeting with several notable figures from Deir ez-Zor living in Afrin to discuss arrangements for their return.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that around 1,500 families from Deir ez-Zor are currently living in Afrin, many of them in homes belonging to displaced residents of Afrin.
The report added that during the meeting, participants discussed a plan for organised return convoys within one month, with authorities expected to provide financial assistance and compensation to returning families.
The move is part of broader efforts to facilitate the safe return of displaced families to their original areas under ongoing understandings between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the interim government.
