PUK President Reiterates Commitment to Gender Equality Within Party Structures

PUK President and Vice President Visit Kurdistan Women’s Union.
Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), accompanied by Vice President Rifaat Abdullah, visited Lava Hikmat, Supervisor of the Kurdistan Women’s Union (Zhnan).
President Bafel congratulated Lava Hikmat on the launch of a new phase for the Union, describing it as an important step in advancing women’s issues, and reaffirmed his full support for its work.
He stressed the importance of women’s role within the organisation, stating that the PUK is firmly committed to equality between women and men and seeks to ensure women’s active participation in organisational life and decision-making positions. He added that the party remains open to all women of Kurdistan to provide opportunities, encourage creativity, and harness their capabilities for the country’s development and prosperity.
For his part, Rifaat Abdullah reaffirmed the support of all PUK institutions for the success of women’s work and their union, noting: “Together, we will move towards greater tasks and better serve women’s issues.”
Lava Hikmat expressed her appreciation for the support, pledging that the Union’s new phase would respond to women’s needs and current challenges. She stressed that the organisation works independently of political affiliations, focusing on protecting women’s rights and creating a supportive environment for progress and innovation.
