Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday described the current ceasefire between the United States and Iran as “very fragile” and called on the international community to “unequivocally oppose any actions that undermine the ceasefire or escalate the confrontation.”

Wang made the remarks during a telephone call with his Pakistani counterpart Mohammad Ishaq Dar, according to China’s Foreign Ministry. He said the immediate priority was to prevent a resumption of hostilities and to preserve the “hard-won momentum” of the ceasefire.

He added that China would welcome Pakistan playing a greater role in efforts to help resolve the conflict, stating that Beijing was also ready to contribute to diplomatic initiatives aimed at de-escalation.
