Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, met separately with Yann Braem, French Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, and Tommaso Sansoni, Italian Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, where they exchanged views on the complicated regional situation and its impact on Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
During the meetings, held on Sunday, 5 April 2026, at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers in Erbil, Talabani noted that although the ongoing conflict has had a negative impact across the region—particularly in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region—Kurdish political leadership has focused its efforts on protecting the Kurdistan Region and Iraq and guiding them through this difficult period with minimal damage.
The Deputy Prime Minister added that every effort has been made to ensure government institutions remain effective and resilient, while continuing to deliver services to citizens.
He also stressed the importance of responsible reporting by both local and international media during this sensitive period, urging outlets to take into account national security considerations and the protection of public property, and to avoid publishing content that could cause unnecessary fear or anxiety.
Regarding relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi federal government, Talabani said efforts are ongoing to promote constructive dialogue aimed at resolving outstanding issues and disputes.
