Deputy PM Visits Sulaymaniyah Agriculture Directorate, Calls for Investment and Sector Development

KRG Deputy PM Qubad Talabani's meeting with the General Directorate of Agriculture in Sulaymaniyah.
Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, visited the General Directorate of Agriculture in Sulaymaniyah, where he met with Shalaw Jamal, Director General, along with heads of the various departments.
During the meeting, held on Monday, 30 March 2026, Talabani commended the Directorate for significantly increasing domestic production of a range of agricultural products over the past five years. He also praised its efforts to enhance plant production, as well as dairy, fish and poultry resources.
The discussions also focused on new measures to further develop the agricultural sector and address challenges facing the development process.
In this context, the Deputy Prime Minister called on the Directorate to prepare a comprehensive roadmap to strengthen coordination between investors and farmers, with the aim of boosting domestic production through large-scale investment projects that serve the interests of both parties.
Talabani also expressed his support for expanding livestock breeding projects and establishing new nurseries, in order to reduce reliance on imported seedlings in the coming years. He further commended the Directorate for successfully digitising agricultural records, helping to safeguard them from loss and damage.
