The Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) issued a message on the occasion of International Women’s Day, reaffirming that the PUK will continue the approach and policies of President Jalal Talabani in promoting the active participation of women, enabling them to contribute fully across party institutions and government bodies, and to advance steadily towards progress
The message states:
"On the occasion of 8 March, International Women's Day, we extend our warmest congratulations and best wishes to all women who have played a leading role throughout history in the struggle of the women’s movement.
The Kurdish women’s movement has been a vital part of the Kurdish people’s struggle for rights and freedom, taking bold steps to achieve these goals. Kurdish women have maintained a strong presence in political institutions and governance across the Kurdistan Region.
Kurdish women—particularly our female comrades within the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan at the forefront—are recognised as some of the bravest and most dedicated participants in the comprehensive struggle for freedom, democracy and progress.
The PUK will continue the approach and policies of President Jalal Talabani in promoting the active participation of women, enabling them to contribute fully across party institutions and government bodies, and to advance steadily towards progress.
Once again, we congratulate you on this occasion."
