Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, announced that the remaining funds from the Chamchamal compensation campaign will be allocated to service projects in the region under full transparency and oversight.
Talabani said during a post on his Facebook page that he visited Chamchamal town, Sulaymaniyah, for the third time to closely follow up on the implementation of the compensation process for flood victims. During the visit, he met with members of the Chamchamal Relief and Rehabilitation Commission and the Supervisory Board.
He stated that it was decided the commission would continue serving the people of the region under a new name, building on the successful experience achieved during the compensation process.
“As we promised, we will not leave the flood victims of Chamchamal and the Shorsh district alone. We will remain with them until the end and ensure compensation for all victims,” he said.
Talabani expressed his gratitude to the Kurdish people, investors, business leaders and media outlets who contributed to assisting and compensating the victims, praising their strong national and humanitarian spirit.
He also thanked the members of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission for fulfilling their duties effectively and meeting public expectations. He also extended special appreciation to the Supervisory Board and trusted local figures in Chamchamal for monitoring the compensation process and ensuring transparency.
Although the compensation process has now been completed, Talabani explained that the committee’s successful model of service prompted a decision to continue its work in a new framework.
He added that the remaining funds will be spent on implementing service projects in the region under the supervision of the committee members, the Supervisory Board and respected local personalities. The outcomes, he stressed, will be publicly disclosed with the highest level of transparency.
Talabani further assured residents that completing the Goptapa Strategic Water Project remains his top priority at this stage.
