PUK VP Rifaat Abdullah.
Rifaat Abdullah, Vice President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), has marked the anniversary of the liberation of Kobani, paying tribute to the martyrs and fighters who defeated ISIS in the city.
In a message, VP Abdullah said:
“On the anniversary of the epic of the liberation of Kobani, I warmly congratulate all Kurds and all freedom fighters of the world, and we solemnly commemorate the martyrs of the defeat of ISIS terrorists in Kobani.
Greetings and respect to the brave fighters and heroic Peshmerga forces who, with the support of the international coalition, mounted an unprecedented and historic defence, defeating ISIS in the face of the courageous and unyielding will of the Kurdish people. Kobani became a powerful symbol of our people’s unity and marked a decisive geographical defeat for ISIS, standing as clear proof that the terrorists could not withstand the determination and solidarity of the Kurdish nation.
Regrettably, after 11 years, when we commemorate this anniversary, Kobani is once again facing a tearing attack and occupation. We are confident that, with the unity and freedom-seeking will of our people, Kurdistan will remain prosperous and victorious and terrorists and their likes will always remain a stain on human history.”
Today, 26 January, marks the anniversary of Kobani’s liberation from ISIS in 2015. After months of fierce resistance, Kurdish forces, supported by the Peshmerga and coalition airstrikes, successfully defended the city. Kobani has since become a symbol of Kurdish courage, unity, and resilience.
