The Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has issued a statement marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, reaffirming the PUK’s commitment to supporting women’s rights, defending their legitimate causes, and standing firmly against all forms of violence directed at them.
The statement reads:
Throughout the history of our people, the girls and women of Kurdistan have played an outstanding and influential role across social, political, and resistance movements. This is well documented in historical records and in the work of orientalists and scholars specialising in Kurdish affairs. Many courageous women have become symbols of resilience and have been afforded opportunities to demonstrate their talents across various fields.
On this occasion, and in order to eradicate any violations of Kurdish women’s rights and eliminate any threats to their lives, we pledge to intensify our efforts to safeguard their rights and support their demands.
By ending violence against women, the potential of the girls and women of Kurdistan will flourish, and their participation in public life will continue to grow.
The PUK will remain steadfast in supporting the women of Kurdistan in their struggle and in removing all obstacles they face, including violence in any form.
