Deputy PM Highlights South Korea’s Potential Role in Kurdistan’s Economic Development

KRG Deputy PM Qubad Talabani and South Korean Ambassador Lee Joon-il.
Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, received on Monday, 17 November 2025, Lee Joon-il, the new Ambassador of South Korea to Iraq, to discuss ways of further developing relations between South Korea and the Kurdistan Region.
The meeting, held in the presence of Seungcheol Lim, Consul General of South Korea in the Kurdistan Region, began with an assessment of the results of the Iraqi parliamentary elections. Deputy PM Talabani expressed his hope that a new Iraqi government would be formed soon and that the rights of all communities would be safeguarded.
He also thanked the South Korean government for its continued support to the Kurdistan Region, noting that South Korea could play an even more effective role in the Region’s economic development. He stressed that the Kurdistan Region stands to benefit greatly from South Korea’s extensive experience across various development sectors.
The two sides also discussed holding a meeting in the near future to explore South Korea’s strategic participation in the Kurdistan Region’s development process.
