Remembering Mam Jalal Through Photographs in an Exhibition Opened by Media Board of PUK.
The Media and Awareness Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s (PUK) Media Board has opened a photographic exhibition dedicated to the late President Mam Jalal, as the eighth anniversary of his passing approaches on 3 October.
The exhibition was inaugurated on Wednesday evening, 1 October 2025, in the presence of Latif Nerweyi, member of the PUK Leadership Council and head of the Media Board, alongside a number of invited guests. The display featured a collection of photographs documenting different stages of Mam Jalal’s political journey and Peshmerga struggle, beginning from his youth.
Speaking at the event, Latif Nerweyi remarked: “Each of the photos on display represents a piece of history and an event, and can also serve as a valuable resource for research and study.”
He added that the exhibition revealed another side of the late president: “We know President Mam Jalal as a president and leader, but today we saw him as a father and a friend, as some of the photos on display are family photos.”
Highlighting Mam Jalal’s legacy as a supporter of free media, Nerweyi further explained: “President Mam Jalal, although a distinguished journalist and writer, was also a friend of journalists and writers. He consistently supported independent media and strongly believed in freedom of expression.”
The exhibition stands as both a tribute to Mam Jalal’s enduring legacy and a reflection of the personal and political dimensions of his life.
