Iraqi PM Praises PUK President's Pivotal Role in Securing KRG-Baghdad Oil Agreement

On Saturday afternoon, 27 September 2025, Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received a phone call from Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani.
At the start of the phone call, the Iraqi PM expressed his gratitude and appreciation to President Bafel Jalal Talabani for his sustained efforts, initiatives, and endeavours over the past period to strengthen ties between the governments of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, culminating in an agreement to resume oil exports from the Region, for which he offered his congratulations.
PM Sudani praised the PUK President's pivotal role in facilitating the agreement, noting that the agreement represents not only a step towards resolving the Kurdistan Region's salary issue but also a foundation for economic recovery and increased investment, which will contribute to the development of both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
Bafel Jalal Talabani thanked the Prime Minister for the phone call and extended his congratulations on the achievement of the agreement. He emphasised: "We hope that all the financial entitlements of the Kurdistan Region will be transferred as a right and in compliance with the constitution, and that this agreement will contribute to greater stability in the country."
He also underlined the importance of the full commitment of both the Iraqi and Kurdistan Regional Governments to implementing the agreement.
