KRG Deputy PM Qubad Talabani.
Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, congratulated the people of Halabja after the Iraqi Parliament passed the Halabja Provincialisation Law on Monday, 14 April 2025, stressing that it is essential for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Kurdish lawmakers in Baghdad to cooperate to ensure the necessary budget is provided for the development of this new province.
The Deputy PM's message said:
Today is a momentous day for Halabja and its people.
Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in this city's history.
Following over a decade of persistent efforts by the KRG and all Kurdish parties, the Iraqi Parliament passed the Halabja Provincialisation Bill.
I hereby express my gratitude to the Speaker of the Parliament as well as to all of the honourable lawmakers who supported the bill. I also want to extend my special thanks to the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) bloc and all other Kurdish blocs and parties for going above and beyond to fulfil this fair demand of the beloved people of Halabja.
Provincialising Halabja makes life sweeter for its residents, the people of Kurdistan, and Iraq in general. It will be even more beautiful if we all work together to accelerate the development of this province. Hence, the KRG and the Kurdish lawmakers must cooperate in Baghdad and work in a coordinated manner to ensure the necessary budget is provided for the development of our new province.
I extend my sincere congratulations to the people of Halabja and Kurdistan as a whole. I also want to renew my thanks to everyone who has put in so much effort to establish Halabja as a new province.
