KRG Deputy PM Qubad Talabani.
Speaking as the keynote speaker at the 2nd MEED Conference For Regional Development in Sulaymaniyah, Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, stated that right decisions cannot be made without data, and that whoever has more data is the winner.
The 2nd MEED Conference For Regional Development, which was held under the auspices of Deputy PM Qubad Talabani, is themed "Data Policy and Management for Sustainable Progress". The conference focuses on the vital role that data policy and data management infrastructure play in shaping the region's growth and sustainability.
The Deputy PM said in his speech: "In response to those who criticise me, saying that I am preoccupied with trivial matters in spite of the crisis and problems, I say; "We have not yet seriously understood the importance of data, so we are behind in data collection, and certainly without scientific data we can not make the right decisions and solve the basic problems."
"Without accurate data, there is no good governance and agriculture, industry, tourism and other sectors will not progress, so whoever has more data, is a bigger winner," he said.
"For sustainable progress, we need to focus on data policy and management and work on the data protection law," he added.
The 2nd MEED Conference For Regional Development brought together a range of experts to discuss the critical issues facing Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in relation to data policy, information management, and economic development.
