As part of the preparations for the forthcoming congress of the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY), set for next year in Sulaymaniyah, Sarineh Abrahamian, the Secretary-General of IUSY, along with several union representatives, visited the mausoleum of President Mam Jalal on Saturday, December 14, 2024.
Hersh Namiq, President of Kurdistan Youth Freedom Organisation (KYFO), told the media that the IUSY Secretary- General visited the KYFO as part of the preparations for their next congress, which is scheduled to take place in Sulaymaniyah next year.
He also stated that the IUSY delegation visited the mausoleum of President Mam Jalal, where they highlighted the role of President Mam Jalal in concern for and protecting human rights and women's rights.
Meanwhile, Saif Aqel, the Vice President of the IUSY, told a press conference: “President Jalal Talabani is a role model for us, having preserved regional cohesion, pursued reforms in Iraq, and internationalised the Kurdish cause and drew global attention and interest to it, alongside his contributions to regional and global peace.”
"We are here at his mausoleum to acknowledge his significant contributions during his presidency and throughout his youth in revolutionary activities and organised political efforts aimed at fulfilling the aspirations of the Kurdish people," he added.
During this field visit, the IUSY will put together a detailed report on the circumstances and governance of the Kurdistan Region while also incorporating the Youth Freedom Organisation's perspective on social issues, in advance of the forthcoming IUSY Congress scheduled to take place in Sulaymaniyah next year.
The IUSY is the union, allied with the “most important international, regional and local socialist organizations in the international labour movement around the world, which brings together democratic socialist youth and student organisations in their fight for democracy and human rights, based on the democratic socialist ideas of freedom, equality, solidarity and social justice.
The union aims to realise the democratic socialist ideas, such as those expressed in IUSY’s Declaration of Principles. In this respect, the primary task of IUSY is to build ever-stronger solidarity among all young democratic socialists in the world, thus making cooperation, common mobilisation and success for democratic socialism possible.
