Regarding the martyrdom of two security forces employees in Qaradagh, General Directorate of Counter-Terrorism Group (CTG) said that the attack was perpetuated by the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist organisation.

Two members of Kurdistan Region's Security Agency (Asayish) were killed in the Qaradagh district, Sulaymaniyah, on Friday, August 9, 2024, in a clash with a group of armed men accused of looting an archaeological site.

“A team from Qaradagh Asayish was on duty, protecting the security and stability of the area  and monitoring an archeological site. A number of armed people were in the archeological site in order to extract and take the Naram-Sin artefacts,” the Asayish said in a statement.

"Based on the obtained intelligence, the shooters were identified as members of the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist organisation who came to the area with the intention of finding shelter and remaining concealed," the CTG said in a statement.

"The security authorities will persist in their investigation of this terrorist incident until the apprehension of the suspects and their accomplices. In the event of any new developments, the public will be duly informed," it added.
