The Political Bureau issues a statement commemorating the 49th anniversary of the formation of the PUK and the 48th anniversary of the beginning of our people's new revolution.

Dear Kurdistani People:
To the proud families of the martyrs:
To the PUK's comrades in the old and new Peshmerga, organisational, and democratic struggles:

We extend our heartfelt congratulations on the 49th anniversary of the establishment of the PUK and the 48th anniversary of the commencement of the new revolution, two significant milestones in the history of Kurdistan and Iraq, as well as in the history of the democratic struggle. This occasion also marks the proclamation of a comprehensive mass revolution that emerged amidst the collapse of an injustice, dispelling the darkness of despair and illuminating the path towards freedom. It embarked on the strategic journey of peace, democracy, human rights, and self-determination, ultimately leading to victory. 

Within a brief period, the PUK's intense struggle, led by the late President Mam Jalal and its founding comrades and strugglers within the country, rekindled the flame of revolution. This effort successfully revitalised the high mountains of Kurdistan, which serve as the focal point for internal and external struggles, as well as all political, diplomatic, and media arenas. 

The revolutionary convoy successfully overcame all challenges and thwarted the strategies of the enemies and fascist invaders. Our nation emerged victorious through immense sacrifices. The convoy's ultimate triumph was achieved in the Kurdistan liberation uprising, which marked the downfall of the Ba'athist dictatorship and the realisation of our people's aspirations for a constitutional and federal country. 

Dear sisters and brothers,

Today, the PUK celebrates its 49th anniversary as a significant national event that all members of our nation have the right to take pride in and claim ownership of. This achievement is a result of their enduring pain and sacrifices, and it has been executed and accomplished by their efforts. The martyrs of the PUK, the courageous Peshmergas on the battlefield, the comrades in prisons and organisations, the brave women, and the fighters for equality and the PUK are all esteemed individuals who have dutifully fulfilled their sacred role in service of the PUK and our nation. Hence, the PUK seizes this sacred commemoration as a chance to renew the endeavour for the prosperity of our future generations. Unwaveringly, it progresses without hesitation, refraining from dwelling on the past, except to acknowledge past hardships and derive motivation for future struggles. 

Dear Kurdistani people,

It is well recognised that our society and its internal circumstances are currently confronted with a critical challenge that necessitates restructuring, advancement, and rectification of its path. A clean and fair election is the most optimal and democratic solution to achieve these legitimate goals. This election will result in the formation of a new parliament and government that will effectively address the current challenges. Furthermore, it will create an opportunity for a government that prioritises public service and is committed to safeguarding the Kurdish national, constitutional, and democratic rights in Baghdad. Additionally, it will enable the Kurdistan Region to effectively counter any threats it faces, regardless of their origin, through unity and a sense of responsibility. 

Today, the voters' will and President Bafel Jalal Talabani's strong statement highlight that (PUK is history, PUK is the blood of martyrs, PUK is sacrifice and PUK is strength). Therefore, it is important for our women and youth to actively participate in the elections. We should approach this democratic electoral phase with enthusiasm, leaving their mark on their future and reaffirming their trust in PUK.
The history of almost 50 years reinforces this assurance due to the unity of the current comrades, the restoration of power and determination in Kurdistan, and the recovery of the significance of the PUK and the Kurds in the political arenas of Baghdad and international politics, on the prosperous path of President Mam Jalal. As events have shown, the PUK leadership has been responsible for initiating all the actions taken so far, with the support of our people. The PUK will continue to work towards reform, prosperity, and serving the Kurdistan people. This will be done in collaboration with the forces of the Kurdistan democratic experience. The PUK has consistently supported national unity and compromise, and emphasises these principles on this important occasion.

May the souls of the martyrs of the new revolution and our people, particularly the martyrs of the Kurdish people and Kurdistan, including the esteemed President Mam Jalal, rest in peace.
