The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President, Bafel Jalal Talabani, presided over a meeting with the Political Bureau at Dabashan today, Tuesday.

The following is the official statement of PUK Politburo:

The PUK Political Bureau held a meeting presided over by President Bafel Jalal Talabani. He reiterated the PUK's unwavering position and principle of supporting the Kurdistan parliamentary elections scheduled for June 10, 2024.

The meeting, held today, April 2nd, 2024, at Dabashan, was to discuss the PUK's Election Bureau's most recent preparations and programmes. All parties agreed to adhere to the timetable established by the Kurdistan Regional Government, and the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission has also made the necessary preparations for it.

The Political Bureau meeting recognises the importance of preserving the Kurdistan Region's entity as well as Kurdistan's democratic experience, which has been a long-standing aspiration of our people and a source of ongoing struggle. It also stressed the importance of holding free and democratic elections within the timeframe specified in order to ensure the electoral process's integrity. The meeting emphasised that constitutional institutions such as the parliament and the administration will be renewed through public voting. The legitimacy of representing our people in order to protect citizens' rights, lives, and well-being will be guaranteed in the same manner.

The PUK Politburo stated that citizens' demands for salaries and budgets for prosperity can only be met by parliament and a new government that will insist on Kurdistan's constitutional rights and financial entitlements while engaging in fair and courageous negotiations with the federal government.

A portion of the meeting was dedicated to discussing President Bafel's recent diplomatic trip to Federal Russia with the PUK's senior delegation, as well as their discussions in Moscow. The Politburo described the visit as fruitful and constructive, anticipating improved relations between the PUK and Russia, as well as further progress in the country's relations with Kurdistan.
