Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, emphasises that women have demonstrated their ability to excel in diplomacy and advance their countries' interests.

The Women & Diplomacy Roundtable Discussion took place in Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan, with participation from DPM Talabani and a number of female diplomats from other countries and Kurdistan. Among the foreign women were diplomats who worked in Iraqi and Kurdish consulates and embassies.

DPM Talabani stressed the importance of women's participation in all areas, including diplomacy. He cited prominent female diplomats from around the world and regions, stating that women have demonstrated their ability to excel in diplomacy and advance their countries' interests, just as they have in many other fields.

DPM Talabani spoke at the event, which was attended by several female students from the Department of Political Sciences, and stated: "Kurdish women are new to the field of diplomacy, but they can demonstrate their capabilities through more efforts."

He urged Kurdish women diplomats not to be discouraged by obstacles and challenges, but to persevere and improve their skills, drawing inspiration from the achievements of their counterparts in other countries who have excelled in diplomacy through dedication and tenacity.

Furthermore, female foreign diplomats shared their perspectives on women's participation in their countries' diplomacy, emphasising the challenges and issues that women face in diplomatic roles. They were pleased with the events being organised in Kurdistan and praised the Deputy Prime Minister for encouraging women to become more involved in politics and diplomacy.
