Qubad Talabani, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, held a meeting with David Burger, the Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Iraq, to discuss the current security conditions in Iraq, Kurdistan, and the surrounding area.
Mark Stroh, US Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, attended the meeting on Wednesday in Erbil, which emphasised the importance of maintaining stability in both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. Both parties recognised the importance of considering the sensitivity of the situation, as any tension or inappropriate behaviour could jeopardise the stability of Iraq, Kurdistan, and the surrounding region.
The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the ongoing threat of terrorism in Iraq and Kurdistan, noting the persistent efforts of ISIS and other terrorist groups to exploit every opportunity to regroup and undermine regional security. "It is imperative that we intensify our preparations in order to effectively eliminate terrorism," he said.
The upcoming Kurdistan parliamentary election was also discussed during the discussion. Talabani emphasised the importance of reaching a prompt decision about the elections and that the election should be conducted in a manner that is free from corruption, impartial, and transparent in the upcoming period.
