IHEC Announces Provincial Councils' Election Results

The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has released the preliminary results of the special and general voting in the Iraqi provincial council elections held on December 16 and 18.

The IHEC issued the following statement: "The outcome of 94.4% of the vote is being disclosed, based on data collected from 36,000 polling stations." These stations were visited by 16 million 877 thousand people who had biometric cards. In addition, 2,000 polling stations that have received complaints will be audited."

Concerning Kirkuk province, the IHEC reported that the Kirkuk is Our Strength & Will Coalition No. 142 received the most votes, totaling 139,373 votes.

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan received 23,715 votes in the provincial council elections in Diyala province, running independently as list No. 120.

In the provincial council elections held in Nineveh province, the PUK coalition (People of Nineveh) No. 134 received 45,939 votes.

Kirkuk is Our Strength & Will Coalition's total seat count is expected to be six, according to the elections' current results. According to a source from the PUK's Elections Bureau, who previously spoke to PUKMEDIA, the Kirkuk is Our Strength & Will Coalition has secured half of the seats in the Kirkuk provincial council.

The chairman of the PUK's Elections Bureau, Rzgar Haji Hama, stated that based on the voting results, the PUK has a legitimate claim to the position of governor of Kirkuk.

The Kirkuk provincial council has 15 seats, one of which is reserved for the Quota Christian community. The Kirkuk is Our Strength and Will Coalition is the PUK and the Kurdistan Communist Party's coalition.
