Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani met with Nasrollah Rashnoudi, Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and discussed several topics of mutual interest.

They began their meeting in Erbil on Wednesday by discussing ways to strengthen ties between Iran and the Kurdistan Region, particularly in the area of trade. Within this framework, they discussed ways to assist and resolve the problems that Iranian businesses face.

"The Kurdistan Regional Government is providing foreign companies with the necessary facilities, and there are excellent investment prospects in the region," Talabani said. Rashnoudi, on the other hand, stated that his country is willing to assist Kurdistan Region businesspeople and strengthen bilateral trade ties.

Another part of the meeting focused on the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad. "Significant efforts are underway in the Kurdistan Region to address the issue of salaries and budget in the Kurdistan Region, with ongoing negotiations," Talabani said. "It is critical that we quickly reach a consensus on resolving the salary issue, and it is critical for Baghdad to acknowledge that this issue should not be conflated with other disputes between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad."

They also discussed the upcoming elections for Iraqi provincial councils, specifically in Kirkuk. Both parties hoped that the election would be held peacefully and that the results would benefit all Iraqis.

"There is discrimination among the communities in Kirkuk," the Deputy Prime Minister said, "and following the elections, there should be an environment where every community is assured of being treated equally and without fear of marginalization."
