PUK Visits Kurdish Parties to Resolve Issues

On Saturday, November 25, 2023, a delegation led by PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani visited various Kurdish political groups in Sulaymaniyah, including the Gorran Movement, Kurdistan Justice Group, and Kurdistan Islamic Union.
The PUK delegation's visit to Kurdish parties as per the recommendations made during the PUK's 5th Congress The visit's goal is to foster unity among Kurdish parties and to kick off a new phase of engagement between the PUK and other political parties.
In a press conference, PUK spokesperson Saadi Ahmed Pire stated, "Following the recommendations of the PUK's 5th Congress, we have undertaken to reunite the Kurdish home and have taken steps to meet and resolve the issues."
During the meeting with the Gorran Movement, participants discussed internal Kurdish unity as well as the development of a collective strategic plan for managing ties with Iraq and the broader regional context.
Furthermore, the topic of governance within the Kurdistan Region was thoroughly investigated. The importance of not involving Kurds in the region's tumultuous and intricate circumstances was emphasized, to divert them from engaging in the struggle between opposing factions to protect the security and tranquility of the Kurdistan Region and its residents from any undesirable incidents.
Both parties agreed that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the federal government should reach a mutual understanding and agreement to address the issue of the Kurdistan Region's allocation and ensure timely payment of salaries, as this is critical for the resumption of educational activities in the provinces of Sulaymaniyah, Halabja, Garmian, and Raparin, as well as resolving issues in the healthcare sector, electricity provision, and citizen security.
The topic of elections was discussed during the discussion, with both parties stressing the importance of holding the Kurdistan parliamentary elections on time. They also highlighted the importance of removing any impediments to the electoral process, particularly given the Kurdistan Region's current situation with a void in certain legitimate institutions. The discussions covered the provincial council elections in Kirkuk and the disputed regions, and a mutual agreement was reached to take the necessary steps to increase the participation of Kurdish constituents in the electoral process.
During the discussion, the PUK and the Kurdistan Justice Group expressed strong support for the importance of maintaining national dialogue within the Kurdistan Region to achieve comprehensive agreement on critical issues. The importance of directing a national discourse towards Baghdad was underscored, with the recognition that it was imperative to consolidate efforts and overcome impediments in the relationships between political groups in the Kurdistan Region.
They also discussed the unfavorable conditions in the Kurdistan Region and the electoral process. It was emphasized that removing impediments to the electoral process should be done in a way that prioritizes the organization of transparent, equitable, and timely elections that reflect the preferences of all.
The meeting concluded with a significant emphasis on the promotion and enhancement of bilateral relations between the two parties.
The meeting with the Kurdistan Islamic Union focused on current political developments, the unification of the Kurdish House, proactive measures for potential developments, and the importance of maintaining inclusive and responsible dialogue involving all political factions to address internal issues within the Kurdistan Region and Iraq as a whole while protecting the populace's well-being and livelihoods. They stressed that efforts must be directed toward resolving financial challenges, with a focus on ensuring timely payment of salaries to employees and workers in the region.
Both parties expressed their support for the imperative of Kurdish reunification and the importance of preserving unity in light of the volatile regional situation. They stressed the importance of addressing governance issues and correcting existing deficiencies. Furthermore, they underlined the importance of aligning political strategies with public interests and holding elections on time, which are expected to improve stability in the Kurdistan Region and strengthen its institutional framework.
The meeting also emphasized how crucial it is to improve ties between the PUK and the Kurdistan Islamic Union and to work together more to safeguard the public interest and serve the general public.
